September 11, 2017

Today is our last day on the Mission fire and as of this morning and we had no idea where we were going. All we know is that we are leaving tomorrow at 0700. There are lots of rumors going around about where we are off to next. It always amazing how impatient and nervous we get as humans when we don’t know the future. When we can plan for it. It reminds me of the people of Israel who left Egypt (Exodus 13),

21 The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. 22 And the Lord did not remove the pillar of cloud or pillar of fire from its place in front of the people.

The Israelite’s went from staying in one place for years to literally venturing into the edge of the wilderness. They not only didn’t know where they were going, but they also had to rely on clouds and fire (sound familiar?). When we plan, we assume certain things about the future, it makes us feel more comfortable. The truth is though, the future is still unknown. No matter how much we think its assured. Whether you are following a pillar of fire in the wilderness or just waiting to find out what our next step is, take comfort in the fact that God was not only guiding them, but he went before them as well. No matter where we end up. We’re not alone! (although it might be scary sometimes)
